Sook Shin
Sook SHIN is a South Korean artist based in Seoul and Paris, whose work explores the relationship between the self and the cosmos, blending Eastern and Western perspectives. Educated at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris under Professor Joël Kermarrec, and holding both B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees from Ewha University in Seoul, SHIN’s work reflects a deep engagement with philosophical themes of unity, eternity, and existence.
Using rice paper on canvas, SHIN's artworks evoke a meditative, poetic reflection on the cycles of life and the cosmos. Her series often draw parallels between the macrocosm and microcosm, symbolized through natural elements like dandelions. The intricate textures and monochromatic contrasts in her works convey a serene, timeless message, exploring the intersection of identity, nature, and universal order.
SHIN has also served as a lecturer at Ewha University and other institutions in Korea. Her work remains a powerful reminder of the artist's role in expressing a worldview rooted in both personal and cosmic understanding.
